The de Young Museum in San Francisco is an integral part of the Fine Arts Museums of the city located at Golden Gate Park. It is just as popular and celebrated as the Legion of Honor. The museum is named in honor of M.H. de Young, one of the earliest newspaper pioneers in the city. The museum dates back to 1895, but the original facility, that was a part of the site where the 1894 California Midwinter International Exposition was hosted was partly destroyed in the 1906 earthquake. The facility was restored and rebuilt, but the expanding collections demanded a new site. M.H. de Young led the planning that eventually established the current facility. The museum has undergone many changes throughout the twentieth century.
